India's Pulses Imports to Decline by Almost 36% On Strong Domestic Production |
Government sources mentioned that the total pulses Imports are likely to be in the range of 1.5 million tons to1.75 million tonnes in the current marketing season started April 1, against 2.75 million tonnes that were reported in 2010-11
As per government's third advanced crop estimate, the pulses production in 2010-11 could be 17.3 million tonnes, the highest ever. The tur production is pegged at 3.2 million tonnes, urad at 1.8 million tonnes and moong at 1.4 million tonnes.
However, India's annual pulses demand at ranges around 19 million tonnes, out of which nearly 3-4 million tonnes is imported from countries like Australia and Canada.
