Subject: India Sourcing Fair to open new vistas for Indian handloom industry
A delegation of 45 companies under the aegis of Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has left to Hong Kong for participation in India Sourcing Fair – Home Products during April 20-23, 2009. FIEO participated with 12 companies in October 2008 in China Sourcing Fair in Hong Kong and based on the response received by Indian companies from global buyers, this India specific fair is being organized in which around 100 Indian companies are participating.

The fair will be co-located with China Sourcing Fair which has become a must attend event of its industry in Hong Kong, The April 2008 edition attracted 30,826 buyers from 133 countries and territories. Some of the regular buyers at the fair are Carrefour; Kingfisher; Tesco; Three Sixty Sourcing; Auchan; Coles Myer; Li & Fung etc. The show is held at buyer friendly Asia World-Expo – which is just one minute from the Hong Kong International Airport.

The India specific fair is being organised to give the exclusive look to Indian companies. The Indian participation includes companies dealing in Stainless Steel Cutlery; Handicrafts of Aluminium & Brass; Handloom Products; Kitchenware, Table Accessories, Jute Products, Hand made Paper Products; leather gift items etc.

Commerce Secretary, Shri G. K. Pillai has praised FIEO’s initiative of participating in Hong Kong which is world’s largest re-export centre and home to buying offices of the largest retailers and importers of the world. He said that Indian handicrafts and gift products are known for their designs and quality and participation in the above fair will open new vistas for Indian exporters. In the present time of economic recession, all efforts for generating business are required and this fair will be instrumental in generating the much required business for the exhibitors.

Shri L D Ralte, Consul General of India in Hong Kong while inaugurating the show said that this show is a prime opportunity for Indian exporters to showcase their products at a time when all buyers are looking for value for money in these difficult times. Hong Kong, as a major trading hub, is an important spring-board for the trading companies and offers services to both buyers and sellers all over the world.

FIEO President Shri A K Sakthivel said that FIEO has committed itself for the cause of trade promotion and exploring various markets for augmenting Indian exports. The experience of Indian participants have been very encouraging and I hope that this fair will provide a new identity to Indian companies in Hong Kong which is treated as not only a destination but a transshipment hub also for export to North America and Europe.

Shri Ajay Sahai, Director General, FIEO will be addressing a seminar for the promotion of Indian gift and home products during the fair. The seminar will be beneficial for overseas buyers for sourcing products from India.

India’s major export to Hong Kong is precious and semi-precious stones. India also exports raw hides and skins, cotton, iron& steel, electrical machinery and equipments to Hong Kong in a big way. However, there is tremendous possibility to increase bi-lateral trade exponentially.
