India to export rice to Maldives |

India will export rice to neighbouring Maldives through the diplomatic route and sell more grains in domestic markets to trim bulging stocks, government officials said on Thursday. India, the world's second-biggest rice producer, had banned exports of common grades of rice in 2008, joining other leading producers in their protectionist measures to bolster domestic supplies. India will export 36,000 tonne of rice to Maldives, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee.
