Subject: Mango exports could rebound to 80,000 tonnes in FY'13
Mango exports from India, the world's largest grower, could rebound to 80,000 tonnes in the 2012-13, the agri-promotion body APEDA has said.

The country's overseas shipment of mango is estimated to be lower at about 46,500 tonnes in the 2011-12 fiscal.

"The availability of export-quality mango depends on weather condition. If weather supports and the fruit supply is sufficient, then the total mango exports could touch 80,000 tonnes this year," said an official of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).

Traders have already started export of mango and at present shipments of Alphonso and Kesar varieties from Maharashtra and Gujarat are being undertaken, he said.

India exports mango from third week of March till May to Bangladesh, Nepal, Middle East, the US, and the UK among others.

Some traders would be exporting mango to Australia for the second consecutive year and this could boost overall volumes, the APEDA official said.

The official also said the chances of quality of the fruit getting affected is more during rainy season, when mangoes from Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and southern states arrive in the market.

The country's mango production is estimated to have been stable at 1.5 million tonnes for last few years.
