Hyderabad, Nov 18 (PTI) Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh state assembly Dr Nadendla Manohar today suggested a technology mission, on the lines of Rajiv Gandhi Technology Mission, to increase the production of oil seeds in the country. He was speaking while inaugurating the 66th annual convention of Oil Technology Association of India (OTAI).
"India is a traditionally agricultural country. Keeping in view the steep imports and dependence on oil-seeds from foreign countries, the farmers should be educated about the modern practises and technology to help boost the production in the country," he said. "Looking at the imports in edible oils, which is currently at 55 per cent and is likely to touch 70 per cent, adoption of modern technologies is imperative," he added. He said that as the state and Centre are providing help to the agriculture sector, the private sector and institutes should also come forward to help improve the condition of agriculture sector he added.
