No more obstacles to Australian exports of uranium to India.

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has said that the country has changed its stance on uranium and that there are no further "outstanding obstacles" to exports of the nuclear material to India.

Wrapping up a three day state visit to India to bolster bilateral ties Gillard said that Australia has "changed our attitude on uranium," and that she doesn't "think there are any outstanding obstacles" to further nuclear cooperation agreements.

According to Fairfax uranium exports to India served as one of the keynote themes of Gillard's discussions with Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh during the official visit.

Gillard met with Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishan who thanked the Australian Prime Minister for her government's removal of a ban on the export of uranium to India on the grounds that it is not a signatory to the nuclear non-proliferation pact.

Negotiations for a civil nuclear co-operation agreement between Australian and India are set to commence soon, with exports following one or two years subsequently.
