Subject: Pharmexcil changes its name to “Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India”

The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council (Pharmexcil) has formally changed its name to “Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India.” Bringing this change with immediate effect the council’s administration has unanimously agreed on the name change and opined that it will give more exposure for the council’s activities not only in the domestic arena but also at the international forums.

Taking the decision in this regard, the Council’s administration had released a circular last week on 23rd December 2011. “We have made a change in the council’s name to have a better visibility and to gives more exposure of our activities to the national and international stake holders and enable the Indian pharmaceutical industry flourish by tapping all the available opportunities and potentialities not only in the domestic markets but also in the international markets,” said, Dr P V Appaji, executive director of Pharmexcil.

In fact, the council has been working tirelessly and engaging in various promotional activities by conducting business meets exhibitions and annual conferences at the national and international level.

So far the council has been representing Indian Pharma industry at various forums internationally. Be it organizing India pavilions at major exhibitions or taking up the critical issues of members with Drug Regulatory authorities or presenting the strengths of Indian Pharma industries at international forums etc, the council has successfully carried out and achieved major strides in promoting the Pharma industry.

Through its ever-energetic activities, Pharmexcil is being recognized as a single window for any information on Indian pharma industry at international level. However, to create confidence, at international level, that the Council's activities are supported by Government of India, and thus it is felt that name of Council to be changed appropriately.

Accordingly, with the approval of Committee of Administration, members of Council and Ministry of Commerce, name of Council has been changed. Appropriate changes in the logo of the Council will also be changed very soon, informed the sources. All the stake holders and registered members of the council have been urged to make a note of this development in the name change and hence forth the council would be referred to as “Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India.”
