Planned Coal Mine Targets Exports To India |
Rey Resources is planning to mine coal near the Fitzroy River in 2013, subject to environmental, native title and other regulatory approvals.
It plans to export thermal coal from Derby port into Asia, particularly India, where the company is expecting demand to continue increasing.
Austrade's Peter Linford says the project will likely generate strong demand from India.
"The proximity in WA in terms of freight costs and time make it an increasingly attractive opportunity," he said.
"Rey Resources, where they are from a geographic proximity, if they have the logistics, the port facilities and the asset delivers what they say it is, and I'm sure it does, then I would think that there'll be very strong demand from India."
