Rupee Gains 32 Paise Against Dollar in Opening trade |
The Indian rupee gained 32 paise to Rs 51.92 per dollar in morning trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange on Wednesday, tracking gains registered by other Asian peers against the American currency.
Dealers said euro losses against other Asian currencies and reports of RBI intervention in the forex market to check the steep fall in Indian rupee mainly kept the sentiment firm.
The rupee had lost 15 paise to close at Rs 52.29/30 against the dollar in the previous session on strong demand for the American currency from importers despite modest gains in the stock markets following an eight-session losing streak.
Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex was down by 220.70 points, or 1.37 per cent, at 15,844.72 in opening trade on Wednesday.
