The Indian rupee strengthened by 31 paise to trade at fresh 10-week high of 49.77 against the dollar in early trade today.
The rise in the rupee has been supported by continued foreign fund inflows. Euro's gains against the US currency overseas also supported the rupee. The Indian currency has been closely tracking the Euro.
At 1010 hours, the rupee traded with 0.72 per cent gains (0.36 paise) at 49.73 to the dollar.
Strong buying in the equity markets, where the benchmark Nifty index jumped above the 5,200 levels, also supported sentiments.
The rupee had ended flat at 50.08/09 against the dollar on Wednesday.
