Subject: Traders from Bangladesh met their Indian counterparts to enhance bilateral and business relations
Siliguri, April 11 (ANI): Traders from Bangladesh met their Indian counterparts in Siliguri on Wednesday to discuss immigration issue with an aim to enhance bilateral and business relations between the two neighbouring countries.

The President of Panchagarh Importers and Exporters Association, Bangladesh, Mehdi Hasan Khan Babla said that the immigration issue was pending from the Indian side.

"Today's issue of discussion was immigration which has been completed from Bangladesh's side. But it has not been completed from the Indian side. So, they were condemning it. They have invited us and Siliguri Police Commissioner and North Bengal Development Minister Gautam Deb have also been invited," he said.

The cross border trade at the Banglabandha-Fulbari Land Port opened by India and Bangladesh had enhanced bilateral trade and strengthened the relations between two countries.

The President of North Bengal Exporters Association, India, Rup Chand Prasad said that they also discussed about the import and export of essential commodities between India and Bangladesh.

"The main points of discussion were import and export of basic goods and immigration. We discussed all these issues," said Prasad.

The cross border trade at the Banglabandha-Fulbari Land Port opened by India and Bangladesh had enhanced bilateral trade and strengthened the relations between two countries.

Recently, there was significant improvement in the trade relations between the two countries.

Earlier in 2010-11, two-way trade crossed the US$ 5 billion mark as a result of a significant increase in Bangladesh's exports to India (68 percent over the previous year) and India's exports to Bangladesh (43 percent over the previous year).

Currently Bangladesh imports more than $4.0 billion worth of products from India while India import less than $1.0 billion worth of products annually. (ANI)
