Garvi Gurjari stores to open in China, Yemen |

AHMEDABAD: Soon, the world-famous Patola fabric and Bandhej and Kutchi shawls will wow handicrafts aficionados in China, Romania, Yemen and Macedonia. On the last day of the three-day 'Gurjari 2015', an international buyer-seller meeting, expressions of interest (EoI) were signed between the Gujarat State Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation (GSHHDC) and the four countries for setting up of Garvi Gurjari emporia there.
D K Sharma, the managing director of the GSHHDC signed the EoIs with the representatives of the countries on Sunday. Another EoI with an e-commerce company was also signed by the GSHHDC.
The handloom corporation will also launch its own e-portal to widen the customer base, by the end of this month. The GSHHDC is in talks with top e-tailers to sell handicrafts products through their websites. The GSHHDC currently has 23 emporia across the country and plans to increase the number to 300 over the next three years.
Gujarat enjoys 30% share in exports of handicrafts from the country. Over 150 exhibitors from Gujarat participated in the three-day event at the GU convention centre. More than 300 buyers from outside Gujarat and over 100 international buyers (from 45 countries) participated in Gurjari 2015, which was organized by the GSHHDC and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
The handloom corporation will also revamp packaging and labelling to cater to the export market apart from computerizing supply chain.
