New Delhi: India's sugar consumption slowed this month as major users like restaurants, hotels and large kitchens cut down on cooking amid a shortage of LPG supplies, leaving mills unable to fully use their government-set quotas.
With less than a week left in March, most mills have used only 50-60% of their monthly allocation, said Deepak Ballani, director general of the Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association.
