Mumbai, Aug 10 (PTI) The Indian rupee Monday appreciated by 10 paise to 47.74 against the dollar in early trade on expectations of increased capital inflows as stock markets may open on a strong note in line with other Asian bourses.
At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the domestic unit rose by 10 paise to 47.74 a dollar. The rupee ended 17 paise lower at 47.84/85 in the previous session on Friday after the BSE Sensex plunged 2.28 per cent.
Forex dealers said hopes of increased capital inflows as stock markets may open higher, in tandem with firming trends on the other Asian markets which are up over 2 per cent in the morning trade, mainly led to the recovery in the local unit.
They said, however, firm dollar overseas, restricted rupee's gain to some extent.
