Import of consumer durables including automobiles in CKD/ SKD condition
Policy Circular No. 7 dated 21st August 2001
Representations have been received seeking clarification regarding the applicability of import licensing note no. 1 at the end of Section XVI of ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items, 1997-2002, on import of consumer durables including automobiles in CKD/ SKD condition or in ready to assemble sets.
In this regard, it is clarified that import of aforementioned items shall be free in case the specific item has been allowed freely in this book separately. For example, import of table fans (Exim Code No. 84145101) is freely importable. Thus, the table fan in CKD/ SKD conditions or in ready to assemble sets shall also be freely importable.
This issues with approval of Director General of Foreign Trade.
