Subject: Imports of Onions.
Reference is invited
to the decision of the Government to allow import of onions in a bid to improve
the domestic availability of the product and check prices.
2. Government
is exploring all possible measures to improve the availability of Onion in
domestic market. Government has already put a ban on export of Onion. Speedy
import is also necessary to boost domestic supply. In this regard, it is of
paramount importance to clear import consignments at the different ports. In
order to facilitate the import of onions. suitable instructions may be issued to
the field formations of Customs Authorities for expeditious clearance of onion
consignments.
3. This issues with the approval of competent authority.
