Onions Export - NAFED permitted to Export to Maldives and Sri Lanka
Notification No. 43 dated 28th

In
exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development
and Regulation) Act, 1992 (No.22 of 1992) read with paragraph 1.3 of the Export
and Import Policy, 1997-2002 as amended, the Central Government hereby makes the
following amendment in the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002.
In
partial modification of the Notification
No.37 (RE-99)/ 1997-2002, dated 1st December 1999, the entry at ITC Code No.
0703 in "ITC (HS) Classification of Export and Import Items (1997-2002),
(incorporating amendments made upto 31st August, 1998) at Schedule 2 Table
B", shall be further amended as under:
1.
The existing entry in column 4 against "0703 - Onions - Canalised"
shall be numbered as "SI. No.1"
2.
The following shall be added as "SI. No. 2" in Col.4 under
"0703 - Onions - Canalised" under the existing entry No.1.
"2.
Export through NAFED till 31st January, 2000 of 3500 MT of Onions (other than
Poddusu and Bangalore Rose varieties) to Sri Lanka and Maldives."

NAFED was earlier permitted to export 5000 MT of Onions under
Notification No. 25(RE-99)/ 1997-2002, dated 13th August 1999 to Mauritius
and Sri Lanka. Since they could export only 1500 MT of Onions, they have
now under this Notification been permitted to export balance quantity till 31st
January 2000.

This issues in Public interest.
(In
para 3 above Maldives has been replaced by Mauritius as per Notification No.
44(RE-99)/ 1997-2002 dated 6-1-2000).
