VADODARA: By 2031-32, India would need to import around 60 percent of its energy requirement. This will drastically increase the import bill of the nation. These were the remarks of country's renowned nuclear scientist Dr Anil Kakodkar.

The Padma Vibhushan awardee scientist who is also former chairman of Atomic Energy Commission and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre said this while delivering a lecture at the Centre for Excellence in Well Logging Technology (CEWELL), a R&D institute of ONGC at Vadodara.

"With depleting fossil fuel reservoirs, there is no other option available except enlarging the renewable energy portfolio," Kakodkar said while delivering a lecture on 'Energy insecurity to energy security'.

He delivered the lecture as part of the tenth Foundation Day celebrations of CEWELL organised on February 2 and February 3. During the lecture, he effectively drove home the point about looming energy crisis and the urgent need to make the transition from non-renewable to renewable sources of energy.

Set up on February 2, 2006, CEWELL aims to develop and nurture competencies in well logging, an important and integral part of exploration.

With knowledge partners from across the globe and its in-house expertise, CEWELL provides operational solutions to not only ONGC but also ONGC Videsh Limited, IOC and GAIL.

During the foundation day celebrations, a technical workshop on 'Value addition through acoustic technology in E&P industry' was also organised where the delegates discussed the benefits and problems of implementing the technology.
