Reuters cited Mr Virbhadra Singh, the new steel minister, as saying that India will consider slapping additional import tax on steel to protect the domestic industries from cheap imports.
Mr Singh said "There are demands to take fiscal measures to stop cheap imports. The issue has to be addressed immediately." He said the India government would ensure production capacity expansion of state owned firms Steel Authority of India Limited and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited.
