Jaipur: Given their durability, the RBI is pushing to increase the Rs 10 coins but in many parts of the state they are not accepted by shops and establishments. Regional director of RBI at Jaipur Arun Kumar Singh on Wednesday said the Central bank has already allayed fears, stating that all the Rs 10 coins are genuine and should be accepted as any other coin or paper notes.
Singh said the RBI will further intensify the awareness campaign so that people can transact freely using the coins. As coins have longer life, different designs and shapes circulate in the market at the same time. So far, the RBI has issued the coins in 14 designs.
Singh said paper notes get easily soiled and this problem is more in Rajasthan given the climate. “The paper currency printing has a cost to it, whereas the coins are more durable. That’s why the RBI is encouraging use of more Rs 10 coins,” added Singh.
