India will secure the interests of its poor fisherpeople at the upcoming ministerial conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), officials said Wednesday. New Delhi has proposed that developing countries should be allowed to give subsidies to their fisherpeople to fish in their exclusive economic zone (EEZ) or up to 200 nautical miles from the shore while rich countries engaged in fishing beyond this zone should stop providing any kind of subsidies for the next 25 years.
