Subject: GST will spur demand for PCs in India, says HP
NEW DELHI: Electronics major HP India today said it expects demand for computers in India to pick up after the roll out of the new GST tax regime from next month, driven by small and medium businesses.

"We are going through the transition and ensuring that we and our channel partners are prepared for the new GST regime. There are a few challenges but we are ensuring that things are in place by July 1," HP India Senior Director (Personal Systems) Ketan Patel told PTI.

He added that with tax slab set at 18 per cent under GST, pricing of notebooks will not be impacted for buyers as the prevailing rates are about the same.

"However, we do expect GST to help tech companies as small and medium businesses will adopt more PCs and that is a big opportunity for players like us," he said.

According to research firm IDC, the PC market in India grew by 8.5 per cent to 2.16 million units in the January- March 2017 quarter from the year-ago period. Of this, the consumer PC segment accounted for 1.05 million units.

HP India led the overall market with 29.5 per cent share, followed by Dell (22.5 per cent), Lenovo (17.7 per cent) and Acer (14.5 per cent).

HP India today launched three new convertible notebook models under Pavillion x360 and Spectre x360 range available for Rs 40,290 onwards, aimed at students and designing professionals.

The devices feature the Windows Ink capability that allows users to write and edit their work on the PC screen using a digital pen.

"The new range of Pavilion and Spectre devices are best fitted for Inking ecosystem. They fulfil the functional and creative needs of students and young working professionals," Patel said.

The notebooks are powered by Intel's latest seventh generation processors, touchscreen display, up to 4GB Nvidia dedicated graphics card and hybrid storage.
