Anti-dumping measures and a minimum import price (MIP) levied on steel has helped cut down steel imports by around 34.7 percent, said the Steel Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh.
Even though imports dipped into India, the exports continued to rise, he added. He estimated a 54 percent rise in exports.
Anti-dumping duties may be removed for some items. The government will review such items soon, added Singh.
He reassured that a possible resolution to the gas availablilty problem in the steel sector is in its final stage. The resolution, he said, is in gas pooling. He added that gas pooling will be in the offing in the next few days for sectors like transport and steel.
