Capital chatter: Cyberabad top cop in for a tough act |
HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad police commissioner is likely to be the most harried man in the common capital post June 2. No prizes for guessing why.
Given that the top cop will have to take orders from two bosses, governor ESL Narasimhan and Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, he is bound to have a tough time keeping both happy.
And if that weren't enough, he'll also have to contend with Andhra Pradesh CM-elect N Chandrababu Naidu (who'll be operating out of Hyderabad too), watching his every move like a hawk.
This problem of plenty, observers say, is sure to add to the chaos of administering the capital city, especially the portion spread over the IT-SEZ-international airport zone. Cyberabad police commissionerate created in Naidu's last term circles the ever expanding Hyderabad in a ring.
Here's how it'll work. While on paper the Cyberabad commissioner, in charge of 41 law and order and 11 traffic police stations, will report to the Telangana CM about day-to-day hap penings in his zone, he will have to make a dash for the governor's office each time there is trouble within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, which comprises a chunk of the Cyberabad belt.
This, as the AP State Reorganization Bill entrusts the governor with the responsibility of overseeing the law and order situation in this area.
There are over a dozen pockets in the capital region where the top cop will have to take orders from both Nar asimhan and KCR and execute them judiciously, without upsetting either.
Then there's the AP CM in the capital city. While CM-elect Naidu may not be boss on paper, he'll have a strong voice given TDP's phenomenal performance in pockets of Cyberabad, areas that house a significant population of Andhraites.
Analysts put the ball in the governor's court and stress that his role in the administration of the capital will be crucial — either maintaining peace or creating chaos in Hyderabad.
"It all depends how tightly the governor can work in coordination with the two CMs," said Anant Maringanti, director, Hyderabad Urban Labs.
