PANAJI: The opposition on Friday slammed the government for the long delay in freeing land locked in the
SEZ imbroglio in Goa.
The criticism followed a starred question by Porvorim independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on the "status of industrial and investment policy" in Goa.
Intervening in the debate, chief minister Manohar Parrikar clarified that though 27 lakh sq m of land was allotted by the previous government without following procedures, he would have to follow the legal process to take back the land. Parrikar said his government is making efforts to free the land locked in SEZ and expressed optimism that the government would succeed.
Responding to the query of how the government would fulfill its promise to generate 50,000 jobs in five years, Parrikar declined to divulge his action plan. He said failure to fulfill the promise would evoke appropriate judgment from the people.
Parrikar also deflected criticism for delay in notifying the investment policy saying it is in the final stages and would be finalized by the end of the month.
Responding to charges by Bicholim independent MLA Naresh Sawal that the government had neglected the Bicholim industrial estate due to which, the youth of Bicholim were deprived of jobs, Parrikar said two work orders had already been issued in February for the upgradation of facilities at Bicholim industrial estate.
