Preventive officer with customs caught for taking bribe |
MUMBAI: The Central Bureau of Investigation, ACB, Mumbai registered a case against Sunil Kumar, preventive officer, deputy commissioner of customs, SEEPZ - SEZ, Andheri (East), Mumbai for allegedly demanding Rs 3 lakhs for allowing them to remove scrap / debris from the notified area of SEEPZ - SEZ.
Sleuths from CID, ACB said the accused threatened that if the complainant does not pay the bribe, he will impose penalty five times of the value of work order and also will not allow carrying out the interior work being carried out in the Nationalised bank premises.
Based on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 25,000 as part payment of total bribe of Rs 3 lakhs. "We have recovered Rs. 40,000 from the possession of Kumar including said bribe of Rs 25,000 which he accepted from the complainant and Rs 15,000 collected from another contractor," said the official.
Kumar has been arrested on December 14. During the house search of Kumar Rs 1.5 lakhs cash was seized along with other incriminating documents pertaining to assets.
