Declaration of Cochin Special Economic Zone as �Free Trade Zone�

In exercise of the powers
conferred by clause (i) of Explanation 2 to the proviso to sub-section (1) of
section 3 of the Central Excise Act, 1944 (1 of 1944), read with clause (8) of
rule 2 of the Central Excise Rules, 1944, and in supersession of the
notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Finance (Department
of Revenue), No. 397/86 - Central Excise, dated the 26th August 1986
[G.S.R. 1040(E), dated the 26th August, 1986] except as respects
things done or omitted to be done before such supersession, the Central
Government hereby specifies Cochin Special Economic Zone at Cochin (Kerala State) as a �free trade
zone�.
Explanation: For the purpose of this notification,
�Cochin Special Economic Zone� means Cochin Special Economic Zone at Cochin
located as and comprising the places bearing the survey numbers, area and
enclosed by the boundaries specified below, namely: -
LOCATION
State of Kerala, Eranakulam District, Taluk Kanayannur, Village
Thrikkakara South. One kilometre south of Civil Lines (Buildings of the District
Collectorate and District Offices), 8 Kilometer from the town and 20 kilometer
from the Airport and Harbour.

Description of the wall (including length, height):
This area of the zone is enclosed by masonry brick wall to a height
varying from 3.30m to 6.600m depending upon the site condition, with 1.2m arm
length �Y� angled barbed wire fencing for a further vertical height 0.9m,
extending from the north-east corner of the area which runs upto 104.5m towards
west and then 271.5m towards south west, then 211.6m towards south, then 156.6m
towards west, then 227.8m towards south, then 87.7m towards east, then 236.3m
towards south, then 47.7 meters towards east, then 184.3m towards north, then
119.7m towards east, then 22.8m towards north, then 42.2m towards east, then
17.5m towards north, then 48.4m towards east, then 42m towards south, then 33.8m
towards east, then 50.7m towards south, then 182.4m towards east, then 273m
towards north-east and then 661.8m towards north running parallel to the
Irumpanam-Kalamassrey road under construction covering a total circumference of
3022.3m of compound wall.
Boundaries:
The area of the said Zone has its boundaries Irumpanam-Kalamassery road
on the east, Thuthiyur road on the North and West and a cross road from the
Irumpanam-Kalamassery road to Thuthiyur on the South east and private lands and
paddy fields on the south.
