Regarding clearance of Personal Computer from EOU/ EPZ/ STP/ EHTP Unit
for Installation in their Administrative/ Registered Office outside Bonded
Premises

Requests have
been received from the trade as also the Ministry of Commerce that the EOU/ EPZ/
STP/ EHTP unit should be allowed to install computers obtained duty-free in
their administrative/-registered office outside the bonded premises.
2. The
matter has been examined. Keeping in view the emphasis on export promotion and
considering that the use of computers in the registered/ administrative office
would help enhance the capability/ efficiency of EOU/ EPZ/ STP/ EHTP unit, it
has been decided to allow the EOU/ EPZ/ STP/ EHTP units to install personal
computers obtained duty free, not exceeding two in number in their registered/
administrative offices subjects to the following conditions:
(a) The
computer would be located only in the registered office or administrative office
of the units working under EOU/ EPZ/ EHTP Schemes;
(b) Any
disposal of such computers would be subject to same conditions as are applicable
to other goods imported by these units.
(c) The
computes would be accounted for in the records maintained by such units; and
(d) The
intimation of locating the computers and their technical details would be given
to Assistant Commissioner of Customs/ Central Excise in charge of unit both at
the time of removal the computers from the factory and after installation of the
same in the administrative office/ registered office of the EOU/ EPZ/ EHTP/ STP
units.

Kindly acknowledge receipt of the circular Problems, if any, faced in
implementation of this Circular, may be brought to notice of the Board
immediately.
